Every new venture has a story. Something catalytic which drives it forward into being, a small spark leading to another. Perhaps it isn't always about creating something novel, but returning to the bones of something you once knew and loved.
When I'm asked what I want to do with my life, the answer is always to write, things that mean something and move people, move myself. To write about things that matter and through the page, share a portal to a natural world so many of us are severed from. Before university, writing was all I did - the thing that made me come alive, through blogs, articles, even books - but in the years that followed, it eroded away as I drowned in lab reports and dissertations. Even while involved with Wild Magazine, a multi-university publication, my role was managerial, supporting others in finding their own flair for writing. It seems that starting Madelaine In The Wild is not about finding myself for the first time, but remembering my way back.

I can't promise to write quickly, or like a seasoned professional. What I can promise is to be real. To write about the real, blossoming natural world outside your window, across the seas, on our screens. To share some of the moments I've experienced in nature that have moved me, shaped me, and guided me. I'll be using the knowledge and skills gained from my degrees, and my wildlife photography, to create a space for all things wild.
If nature and science writing, and the call of the wild, capture you too, please consider subscribing to Madelaine In The Wild's mailing list. You'll be notified of posts like this by email, so you'll never miss a new blog. You can also see a selection of photography work on my Photography page, organised by subjects, and follow @madelaineinthewild on Instagram for regular wildlife uploads.
